MGA 2012 is annually presented  in the following four categories:

  • PERESTROIKA: “For the contribution to the development of global civilization” presented for historical achievements which positively influence the processes changing the world.
  • GLASNOST: “For the contribution to the development of the culture of an open world” presented for unique input in the field of contemporary culture, art and media.
  • USKORENIE: “For the contribution to the development of modern science and technology” presented for real achievements in the field of human thought and creation of new technologies.
  • NEW THINKING: “For the contribution to the development of civil community“ presented for the effective thinking and consequent actions taken around the global challenges of today‘s world.

CELEBRITY PRESENTERSwill host the ceremony in an entertaining way and will announce the ceremony topic, present the MGA winners in each of the three categories, and introduce music acts.

These are the three universal concepts devised personally by Mikhail Gorbachev to define his global reforms that destroyed the “walls” on the planet and put an end to the Cold War.

They have become the themes of the MGA categories to celebrate people who have changed the world for the better.

 

CELEBRITY PRESENTERS will host the ceremony in an entertaining way and will announce the ceremony topic, present the MGA winners in each of the three categories, and introduce music acts.

The founders of the Mikhail Gorbachev Award are reputable organizations whose objective is to facilitate and support world development. These organizations are The Gorbachev Foundation, headed by Mikhail Gorbachev, The Nobel Peace Laureates Forum, Green Cross International and The New Policy Forum.

Nominees for the inaugural Mikhail Gorbachev Award were those who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of modern technology, arts, media, communication, astronomy or social sciences.

The MGA laureates themselves will be involved in the fiery TV debates. They will be announced on the 20th of March at the famous Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. The anchorman of the improvised studio on stage will be the world’s most respected talk show host – Larry King.

The Mikhail Gorbachev Award “The Man Who Changed the World“ was presented for the first time at the glamorous celebration of Mikhail Gorbachev‘s 80th birthday at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2011. The award show took place in a unique atmosphere and was attended by guests from all over the world such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lech Walesa and Shimon Peres. The ceremony‘s hosts were the Hollywood stars Sharon Stone and Kevin Spacey and the concert featured such prominent artists as the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev, Paul Anka, Lara Fabian, Bryan Ferry, Shirley Bassey, Scorpions, Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Igor Krutoy, Andrey Makarevich, Melani C, Katherine Jenkins and many more.
